We test them, fix any that fail and fill in your logbook.
You get this for HMOs, offices, shops and blocks of flats with shared hallways, in Luton and Dunstable. If your building has no emergency lighting yet, we tell you where it is needed and fit it.
Who Needs Emergency Lighting?
Most offices, shops, HMOs and blocks of flats with shared hallways need emergency lighting on the way out. Your fire risk assessment shows where it is needed.
The person in charge of fire safety must keep it working. This is often the owner, landlord or managing agent. Regular tests and a logbook show that you do.
Monthly and Yearly Tests
The British Standard asks for a short function test every month. Each light is switched to battery power to check it comes on, then switched back.
Once a year, each light runs on battery for its full rated time, usually 3 hours. This shows the batteries last long enough for everyone to get out. Every test goes in the logbook.
What Happens on the Day
After the yearly test, the batteries can take up to 24 hours to recharge. We agree a quiet time with you, as the building has less emergency cover while they charge.
Any light that fails is noted, and you get a clear price to replace the battery or the fitting. You also get a copy of the results for your records.
Fitting New Emergency Lighting
If your building has none, or not enough, we check the escape routes. We then show you where lights are needed. That usually means stairs, corridors, exit doors and changes in floor level.
Once fitted, each light is tested and added to your test schedule. You can do the quick monthly check yourself and book us for the yearly one.
