Remedial work is any repair needed to clear the C1, C2 and FI items on an EICR. C3 items are advice only, so they do not make the report fail.

Common jobs include replacing damaged sockets and switches, tightening loose connections, fixing earthing and bonding, and adding RCD protection. Sometimes the simplest fix is a new consumer unit.

Private landlords in England must finish the work within 28 days of the report. If the report gives a shorter time, that applies. A C1 danger is often made safe straight away, before the full repair.

You then send written confirmation of the work to your tenants and the council. Do this within 28 days of the work being finished.

An FI code means the electrician could not finish a check, such as a circuit they could not trace. We investigate first, then tell you what we found.
